Elements of Magic Weekend Intensive

Join us for Elements if Magic, where we learn the tools and hone our skills of the Craft, supported by the foundation of the Principles of Unity. This transformative weekend intensive is one of several core classes taught in the Reclaiming Tradition, an anarchist, ecofeminist, non-hierarchical strand of Witchcraft that was born in the California Bay Area in the early 1980’s.
In Elements of Magic we invite Air, Fire, Water, Earth and Spirit to become our allies, inform our work, and help us grow. By the end of class students will understand the energies of each element and be well on their way to create relationship with the elements and the various spirits and deities we invoke in class. Students will learn to purify, cast, ground, invoke, trance, move and raise energy, set intentions, visit their place of power, do spell work, use multiple modes of divination, create sigils, etc. In these times especially, we will also discuss both defensive magic and magic as a tool for personal, communal, and global activism. Each point will be explored through energy work, trance, movement, art, sound, words, voices, breath, body, and participatory ritual all rising up, shaping, shifting, changing, and recreating ourselves, our communities, and our world.
This class is a great way to connect with other people exploring Reclaiming Tradition magic and witchcraft. Group experience follows feminist consensus process. We aim to provide an accessible, fair, and nurturing environment for all participants.

Community Class: The Mycelial Pentacle

This class is being postponed. We are hoping to offer this class in the second half of the year.
In the Forest, not a single organism survives entirely on its own. The mycelium in the forest floor supports and links every thing rooted in it. The trees provide shelter for all, reducing the temperature and wind-flow within the forest while also bringing moisture down from the sky. Every creature in every ecosystem is interconnected. We too are interconnected. In community, we grow together, we thrive together just like all creatures in the Forest. In Reclaiming, community is the capstone of our tradition. And therein lies both our blessings and our challenges.
In this class, we rise to our challenges and embrace our blessings as we work magic with the Pentacle of Community: Collaboration, Honor, Common Good, Empowerment, and Service. We will also work with Collectivism as the circumference of this pentacle. Through the Pentacle of Community, we weave a network that supports our living, working, and being together; we build a radical alternative to the destructive domination and isolationism of the over-culture. We will examine our relationships with each other, learn from indigenous and earth wisdom, perform radical self analysis, and empower tools that help us continually move from isolationism to standing together, supporting ourselves and each other as creatures of this brilliant and magical forest.

Simple Outline
Below is a simple outline for those who prefer to weave magic as they will. Following this outline is one with more details for those who seek them.
Before the work, establish who the caretakers of the land are. The site, Native Land, can be helpful.
- Acknowledge whose land you are on, honoring the peoples who have survived colonialism.
- Cleanse yourself for the work.
- Ground your roots into the Earth.
- Cast your circle to create the container.
- Acknowledge the elements and welcome their magic.
- Connect with the spirits of the land on which you live.
- Embark on the trance journey and magical working prepared for you.
- Feel into whether anything else is needed to make your ritual complete.
- Thank the spirits of the land and the elements and release them the work.
- Open your circle.
Blessed be!
Detailed Outline
Below is a more detailed ritual outline for those who are interested or those who seek to create the magic in synchrony with the other witches.
Before the work, establish who the caretakers of the land are. The site, Native Land, can be helpful.
- Acknowledge whose land you are on, honoring the peoples who have survived colonialism.
- When we begin our working we acknowledge the first peoples of the land we are on. We acknowledge that they cared for the land long before the colonialists who committed genocide against the first peoples, and we acknowledge that the first people are still here and not gone. This is not the end of the colonialist journey; merely a first tiny step.
- Cleanse yourself for the work.
- You may choose to cleanse with sound, salt, or saining. Whatever calls to you.
- Ground your roots into the Earth.
- Breathe deeply into your body, feeling the whole of your body. Breathe deeply into your root and as you breathe let your root sink deeper and deeper into the earth. When your root has been sunk as deep as you need, begin to breathe up the rich earth energy. Breathe up the earth energy into your body filling your arms, legs, torso, head, and crown.
- Cast your circle to create the container.
- You can cast your circle with a wand, athame, or even your hands. The key is to move the energy into a delineated space. We typically cast starting in the North and moving to the East, South, West, back to North to complete the circle, then above and below.
- Acknowledge the elements and welcome their magic.
- We typically welcome the elements starting with Air in the East, then Fire in the South, Water in the West, Earth in the North, and Spirit at the Center. This acknowledgement can be a welcoming with words of poetry or song, or and a breathing into your circle with your breath. Or simple an honoring bow, acknowledging the elements are always there and always sacred.
- Connect with the spirits of the land on which you live.
- Honor the local spirits of the land. This may require a deep listening and stillness to get to know them. Perhaps there are small spirits in your garden or on your balcony. Perhaps you hear the spirit of the mountain in the distance. Perhaps you already know the spirits of where you live through years of deep work with them. Honor the presence and thank them for letting you do the work.
- Embark on the trance journey and magical working prepared for you.
- Make yourself comfortable for a trance journey in whatever way works best for your body, and when ready, you can play the audio file prepared.
- Feel into whether anything else is needed to make your ritual complete.
- After emerging from the trance, you may sense the need to move your body or breathe energy up through your grounding cord. Feel into what is right for your ritual in this moment. You may feel your ritual is already complete.
- Thank the spirits of the land and the elements and release them the work.
- Honor all the beings and mysterious ones you welcomed at the start of your ritual, including the elements. Typically we thank the energies in reverse order, though sometimes a ritual calls for a different order. Thank them and wish them farewell in the order that feels most right to you.
- Open your circle.
- We can open our circle by sweeping it away to go be with our local spirits. You can start by sweeping that which is below, then going to that which is above, then start sweeping in a counterclockwise direction starting the West, then going to the South, East, and ending in the North.
- Your circle is open, but unbroken! Blessed be!

Aspecting is a pathway to personal encounters with the Gods/Divinity. It is beautiful and transformative. It can lead us to the deepest, most intimate relationships with the Divine. In the practice of Aspecting, we bring the energy & messages of the deities through our bodies, energy fields, and our voices.
In this playshop we will safely explore the techniques and the practice of Aspecting as it’s done in the Reclaiming Tradition. We’ll step into the practice by anchoring, grounding, releasing our inflated/deflated tendencies, and creating a strong container. For those new to Aspecting this class will offer you a safe gateway into this magical experience. For those more experienced, it will be a chance to deepen your practice and share the wisdom of the gods with others.
Laura & Caduceus are longtime dedicants to this practice and have succeeded through trial and error with the Gods, who are often patient and always forgiving.

Along with the Iron Pentacle, the Pearl Pentacle is one of Reclaiming Tradition’s core tools for self-transformation, adapted from the Anderson Feri Tradition. This Pentacle provides a framework for developing self and group awareness, building intuitive skills, and for stepping into one’s power in the world.
Each point of the Pearl Pentacle radiates through us and into the world, offering the powerful and visionary qualities of Love, Wisdom, Knowledge, Law and Liberty. Using magical tools including ritual, trance, divination and aspecting, we will delve into the myriad ways these powerful forces can be shaped and channeled in our internal growth, our actions, our relationships, and our work in community.
The energy of this Pentacle is full of depth and healing, the ability to turn wounds into jewels. Pearl Pentacle is a great companion tool in times of challenge.

Elements of Magic Six-Week Class
“Magic is art — that is, it has to do with forms, with structures, with images that can shift us out of the limitations imposed by our culture in a way that words alone cannot, with visions that hint at possibilities of fulfillment not offered by the empty world.”

—Starhawk, Dreaming the Dark
This transformative 6-week course is the first of several core classes taught in the Reclaiming Tradition, an anarchist, ecofeminist, non-hierarchical strand of Witchcraft that was born in the California Bay Area in the early 1980’s. With the five sacred Elements of Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and Spirit, we begin the practice of Magic: the art of changing consciousness at will, empowering us to act in our lives, our community, and our world, for greater personal sovereignty, justice and liberation.
Each Element is a participatory ritual through which you will learn technologies and tools to create sacred space, honor divinity, and focus your will to manifest change for the good of all. These tools and technologies include the altar, the blade, the wand, the cone of power, the chalice, the pentacle, the cauldron, dance, drumming, chanting, trance, visualization, wish birds, sensing & projecting energy, spellcraft, and creating and structuring rituals.
This class is a great way to connect with other people exploring Reclaiming Tradition magic and witchcraft. Group experience follows feminist consensus process. We aim to provide an accessible, fair, and nurturing environment for all participants.

Join us for an Iron Pentacle class! The Iron Pentacle is one of Reclaiming Tradition’s core tools for self-transformation, inherited from the Anderson Feri Tradition.
Using our magical skills, along with moving and shaping energy, we’ll explore the five points of the Iron Pentacle: SEX, PRIDE, SELF, POWER, and PASSION. These points are our birthright as free human beings. The Iron Pentacle can help us reclaim these energies and integrate them into our lives.
During this intermediate class we will explore the power and majesty of the Iron Pentacle through exercises and techniques, including ritual, trance, energy work, self-awareness, communication, journaling, and song. We’ll also develop areas where growth and balance are required, learning tools to take into our daily lives. Although the Iron Pentacle can be challenging, it is a powerful tool for personal transformation, which is the work of a lifetime.

Let us be still and listen for the sounds of ritual. Are we shaping a call for justice? Are we crafting a chant song for community healing? Does our ritual play long for a kaleidoscope of sounds and rhythms cascading together to make a beautiful noise that supports the magic we create?
Gwion and Rainy cordially invite you to join us as we explore the art of ritual soundscaping. Together we will delve into the mysteries of our collective voice, using it as a tool for enhancing ritual experiences. Together we’ll find the “just right” sounds as they emerge and fold them seamlessly into the rich tapestry of ritual technology, honing and developing our musical skills together.
Let us explore crafting magical, musical intentions, using our voices, drums, bodies and the instruments that Nature provides us to nurture and support life enhancing change and action.
No musical experience required. Bring a drum if you have one or shakers or a kazoo or just your hands and a voice. This is not a drumming workshop, but it is a sound playshop and drums might be used.

Facilitator Bios:
Gwion has been a practicing witch and ritualist within the Reclaiming Tradition since 2003. He loves being in service with this community of witches and world changers and has taught Reclaiming Core classes, week-long witchcamps, and embodied devotional work across the U.S and Canada. As a drummer and musician, Gwion draws inspiration from music and improvisational theatre. He has a willingness to embrace and explore the power in the Shadow. Gwion has studied Tibetan Buddhism with his beloved Ven. Segyu Rinpoche, Druidry and adores myths, especially those from the British Isles. He is often found conversing with Ravens, running through the redwoods, and drumming with the Unseen Ones. Gwion is dedicated to Ceridwen and the transformation She brings through her cauldron of Initiation. You can follow Gwion at www.tobeawitch.com
Rainy – I’ve known I was a witch since my college days (nearly 30 years ago now), practicing mostly as a solitary until I found my home in Reclaiming. Since 2004 I’ve attended six Witchcamps (California Witchcamp and Tejas Web in TX) and one Tejas Dandelion Gathering, returning from each camp more in love with this tradition and with a deepening commitment to nurturing community at home. I’m currently serving on the Reclaiming LA Ritual Planning Cell and have helped to craft and priestess many public rituals in the last three years. My personal practice includes restorative yoga, meditation, divination, and journaling. You can often find me at the community garden or curled up with my two cats and a good book.
